The discovery of coffee

Coffee was discovered in North Africa, more exactly in the area that today is known as Ethiopia.

Popular legend has it that a shepherd named Kaldi He observed that his goats behaved more energetically after eating the fruits of a bush found in the area. Kaldi himself tasted them and felt their stimulating effects. Surprised, he took them to a nearby monastery where they disapproved of its use and they threw them into the fire. When roasted, the beans began to give off a delicious aroma that caught the attention of those present. Without delay, they decided to remove him from the embers and infuse it in hot water. The first cup of coffee in history had just emerged, completely spontaneously.

But beyond these legendary stories, what does seem true is that coffee It was discovered around the 7th century in those same African regions.

Expansion around the world

The Muslims They spread it within the Ottoman empire, and it becomes common due to the prohibition of alcohol. Through the centuries, it reached Western Europe through Holland, then France, and later the rest of the colonizers.

The European colonizers in America they introduced it in this region.

Portugal was the one who delivered this product to Brazil, to the areas of Paraná and Amazonas. For its part, England cultivated it in Jamaica while Spain made it reach Philippines and Costa Rica.

Day by day, the countries with the highest production they are Brazil, Vietnam, Indonesia and Colombia. These countries and some more are known as the "coffee belt ”And all are geographically located between the tropics of Cancer and Capricorn.

Arabica and Robusta

They are the two great varieties of coffee that exist. And the reality is that there are many differences between the two.

To begin with, the Robust has almost twice as much caffeine as Arabica. It is a native variety of Central Africa and, growing in dry areas, it is little digestive, has a bitter final taste, full-bodied and little perfumed. Its cultivation represents 43% of world production and is more economical than the variety Arabica. The robusta coffee plant is less susceptible to problems throughout its growth, which is why it is a cheaper coffee.

Arabica, is the variety more expensive and appreciated of all. Native to Ethiopia, it can grow in other regions that are between 500 and 2,400 meters high. This variety represents 56% of world production and has a low concentration of caffeine. As a result, coffee Arabica creates a more aromatic and smoother drink on the palate.

The differences, as we have seen, can be seen in flavor, aroma, body and price. But even so, and although both types of coffee are widely consumed throughout the world, arabica is the one with the largest market share.

The moka pot is one of the coffee extraction methods plus cheap and fast that exist. It is perfect for obtaining a concentrate with a great flavor.

The moka pot or moka pot has a production process that consists of going through 3 chambers.

The water in the lower chamber boils, and the steam causes pressure, this pushes the water up through the coffee grounds into the upper chamber.
