Leilani Rogers is a photographer and mother of two who has wanted to find a way to claim the normalization of breastfeeding in public and show her support to mothers who want to do it.
The artist launched The Public Breastfeeding Awareness Project (PBAP) initiative this year. To do this, he summoned about 50 photographers to take snapshots of women breastfeeding their children in public places.
These images can be seen on their Facebook page, as well as on the authors' blogs and on social media through the hashtag # PBAP2014
According to WHO and UNICEF breastfeeding:
It is an unbeatable way to provide the ideal food for the correct growth and development of children.
Both organizations recommend, as essential, exclusive breastfeeding during the first six months of the baby's life. Then continue breastfeeding for at least a year (or until the mother and child want to) along with the gradual introduction of other foods.
Some published anthropological studies conclude that the natural lactation period in humans is located between two and a half years and seven.
With this information, it seems illogical that doing something as natural as breastfeeding your child in public is controversial..
In some countries it is considered in bad taste, in others not so much. But the truth is that it is a topic that has given much to talk about in recent years..
- The importance of breastfeeding
The importance of breastfeeding
The milk that the mother can give has all the main ingredients such as sugar, lactose, proteins and fats in the right amounts and necessary to allow a perfect growth of the baby.
Milk, with protein that it provides are totally necessary for the formation of new cells in all tissues of the body. The carbohydrates provided by breast milk They provide energy and facilitate the absorption of the correct calcium so that the baby grows healthy and stable.
It is well known that babies need a greater amount of calories during that first year, since their growth is very intense: and they can grow about 25 cm. Their brains are actively developing and for this they need components of the fat in breast milk, including the cholesterol. Many people have the wrong way of thinking about cholesterol being bad. Among the various types of cholesterol that we can find there are some such as that of breast milk, avocado and many more necessary and good for our system.
Breast milk has substances that protect the child and help him fight both ear infections and allergies, vomiting, diarrhea and many other typical diseases of this period. It also contains enzymes that help in the sensitive digestive process that babies have. Many of them, like mine with colic and that make him suffer and suffer a lot, we can know it by his tears.
From "The cotton cloud " we want to give our most sincere support to people who decide to breastfeed where they want, when they want, how they want and even as long as they consider appropriate. We firmly believe that whoever can see something wrong in this "act of love " the problem is his and not the rest.
